The Fugitive – Season Two, Volume Two (1965/CBS DVD)

After a lapse where they replaced the original music with new music, putting fans in an uproar, CBS has issued the latest set of the classic TV series The Fugitive with its original music a bit more in tact.  Season Two, Volume Two continues CBS’ desire to issue half-seasons of hour-long shows so they all fit in cases the size of a single case.  Fans may not always like this, but at least the packaging is solid.

 

This time, we get 16 episodes with guest stars including Robert Duvall, Angie Dickinson, John Erikson, Barbara Barrie, Dabney Coleman, Tom Skerritt, Diane Foster, Bruce Dern, R.G. Armstrong, Sharon Farrell, Murray Hamilton, Harry Dean Stanton, Jack Klugman, Geraldine Brooks, Michael Constantine, Barry Atwater, Telly Savalas, Norman Fell, Edward Asner, Ed Begley, Richard Anderson, Diana Van der Vlis, Shirley Knight, Lou Antonio, Fred Beir, Virginia Gregg, Celeste Holm, James B. Sikking and Laurence Naismith.  Not bad for half a season!

 

However, these shows are a bit uneven overall as some are better than others, some hold up better than others and the scripts started stretching out the situations so Kimble could stay on the run.  However, the teleplays are intelligent, acting solid and even when some things do not work, at least they were trying.

 

The 1.33 X 1 black and white image is said to come from the original 35mm camera negatives and they do look that good, but there are still some minor detail issues here and there, but Video Black is really good for the DVD format and it will make you wish for Blu-ray ASAP.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is at a lower volume than the previous sets for whatever reason throughout and sound more compressed than they should, being one disappointment here.  No extras are the other.
