Black Label Society - Skullage (Eagle DVD/CD Set)

It is
hard to believe, but Zakk Wylde’s Black
Label Society has only been around since 1998 and that is already 11
years! Skullage is a compilation of all the concert and Music Video
material Eagle and the band could fit on one DVD and it is rough, can be uneven
and though complete, never feels well rounded.
Nevertheless,
it is part of a CD/DVD release that will make fans happy, but beyond that, more
text and a featurette should have been included so it is accessible beyond its
fan base. It is a decent crash course
for those interested, but I was not as pleased, especially when so many DVDs in
the genre of Heavy Metal have been smoother, though “smooth” is a term the band
would probably enjoy rejecting, so there you have it.
The
various aspect ratios are usually sourced from analog videotape and only the
later Music Videos look really good, especially when they are 16 X 9. The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is simple stereo
at the least, maybe with some mono here and there, but on the best material
(like the Videos) there should have been DTS and 5.1 mixes available. Extras include the somewhat
compressed-sounding 16 bit/44.1 kHz CD and any material you do not consider an
extra. We consider this a compilation,
so we will not include anything but the CD.
