Elmo & The Bookaneers (Sesame Street/Genius DVD)

After four Elmo DVDs with short programs, I expected them to stay consistently the same, child-friendly and entertaining, but Elmo & The Bookaneers is better than expected.  Our previous and growing coverage of this series can be found at this link:

This one has fun with the Pirates Of The Carribean franchise as Tina Fey guests as the head of the title pirates whose initiation is to know the alphabet and books.  It is more in the spirit and more with the energy of the original Sesame Street than most of this series has been in, so we would recommend this volume first and that may stay that way for a while.  Adults will be more entertained than usual too.

The 1.33 x 1 image is not bad like the previous DVDs in the series, with nice color and a good look for an analog NTSC shoot, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is better than some of the problematic DVDs we’ve covered.  There are no major extras and we will not count trailers, but there is a text guide to help children read, so that’s not bad.
