3 Mo’ Divas (2008/Acorn Media Blu-ray/Concert)

Concerts have been an early highlight of Blu-ray, but more has been issued that just Rock & Rap titles.  A plethora of Classical, Opera, Ballet & Jazz titles have surfaced and many have been better than you might think.  3 Mo’ Divas (2008) is an hour-long showcase of three exceptionally gifted singers: Laurice Lanier (mezzo-soprano), Jamet Pittman and Nova Y. Payton (sopranos) singing through many different musical styles, having fun with them, amazing the audience at their grasp of them and creating a tour de force like nothing since The Three Tenors hit the stage.

To give you an example of what they are singing, look at this list of songs they go through in this one show:

Quando m’en vo
Style
Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix
Summertime
Let the Good Times Roll
Lullaby Of Broadway
Seasons Of Love
Defying Gravity
God Bless The Child
Feeling Good
Lady Sings The Blues
Harlem Nocturne
Solitude
Everything Must Change
I’m Every Woman
His Eye Is On The Sparrow
Sweeping Through The City

Why this show and these ladies are not a national sensation yet is mind-boggling, but this Blu-ray (and a separate CD issued by another company) should show these ladies in their glory.  You might want to catch up to it now and be ahead of the game if and when they break out, which cannot be soon enough.  Their singing and their wit is just phenomenal!

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 image can be soft and detail limited at times, but the depth, color and nice overall shoot make up for the shortcomings to enough of an extent that it is still a very pleasant viewing experience.  The sound here is sadly only Dolby Digital 5.1 and lesser Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo with no real surrounds, not something more advanced like higher PCM, Dolby True-HD or DTS-HD sound codecs, but it is passable.  Too bad a PCM 2.0 Stereo option was not available.  Extras include 29 additional minutes of performing and bois on the divas.
