The Jetsons – Season Two, Volume One (Warner DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C+

Like so many things Hanna-Barbera did well until the later 1970s, The Jetsons was great in its original configuration when it hit the scene as a futuristic parallel to The Flintstones in the 1960s.  It did not last as long, but was a hit, yet is often remembered as strongly.  The interesting thing about this Season Two, Volume One set is that these shows are from the 1980s revival, demonstrating how few shows were originally made.  Though not as good as the initial season, these are not bad and can be amusing.

The 21 shows in this 3-DVD set are child-friendly made at a time when the majority of producers for TV thought that still mattered.  However, as good quality as the shows might be, they add nothing new to the world of the space-aged family yet does not coast on the original show in stupid ways like so many franchises do now.  Therefore, it is for completists and children only.

The 1.33 X 1 full screen, color picture has some minor aliasing errors and softness, but looks good for the format otherwise.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is on the aged side, but is not bad.  Previews for other Warner animated DVD releases and a so-so featurette called Return To The Future are the only extras.
