Speed Racer: The Next Generation – Comet Run The Movie (Lionsgate/Animated/with Mach 6 toy car)

It is bad
enough there even is a new Speed Racer: The Next Generation to begin
with, which has only had one lame season, but we now get an awful feature
length DVD dubbed Comet Run The Movie
proving that feature-length projects and the characters (especially watered
down copies of the original like this) do not work. The tile simply refers to the “next big race”
cliché and it is so dumb at this point that one wonders why this was greenlit
in the first place.
There are
the usual cheaters and an environmentally friendly car this time, but this goes
down a road well traveled and is just a mess.
One of the worst animated shows of all time and proof animated shows
really should not have sequels, this is a total waste.
The 1.33
X 1 image is weak, too digital for its own good, lacks detail and has a color
scheme that is never works. The Dolby
Digital 5.1 mix has little soundfield, is not thought out as a multi-channel
experience and is not that well recorded.
The combination is as obnoxious as the program itself.
*Extras
are zero on the DVD, but our edition was in a paperboard case with a
Matchbox/Corgi Jr.-sized Mach 6 car. It
is not diecast, but is not bad.
