John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and Friends - 70th Anniversary Birthday Concert (Eagle Blu-ray)

Picture: B     Sound: B     Extras: C-     Concert: B

After a nice DVD/CD release, Eagle has returned to the John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and Friends - 70th Anniversary Birthday Concert from a few years ago and issued it on Blu-ray.  You can read all about the set and show at this link:

Extras are the same and despite the sound upgrade from DTS to DTS-HD MA lossless, the sound is about the same, with the newer DTS a little better than the older DVD mix, but now it shows the sonic limits of the recording.  The DTs is also better than the standard Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM 2.0 Stereo mixes.  That leaves the image.

The 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is a little better than the DVD with better color, depth and consistency than the DVD, but detail and depth limits, plus more than a little motion blur show the age of the taping.  Add the smaller package and unless you want the CD too, you are better off with the Blu-ray than the DVD.  Fans too will be pleased.
