Jockeys is a passable reality TV show
focusing on the current state of the little seen behind-the-scenes world of
horse racing from those who ride the horses in what has traditionally been seen
as the sport of kings. However, there
has also been the dark underside (gambling, shady people involved in some
aspects of the events) and this series (give or take the “reality TV” formula)
over the episodes on this 2-DVD set.
It is as
if what does work here and is worth seeing surfaces by default and the various
people who dream of riding the winning horse is actually real, though an
outright documentary approach would have worked better. Nevertheless, if you have some time to waste
and are seriously interested, it is worth a look.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is an all HD shoot with some phoniness
and motion blur, but it can be clean and we’ve seen worse. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has the usual
location audio limits and music score trying to cover it up. This set actually has extras, including five
featurettes and a Q&A.
