Stargate: Atlantis – Fans’ Choice (MGM Blu-ray)

It was enough that the feature film Stargate (see Blu-ray elsewhere on this site) was passable at best, but the several TV shows that followed seemed like an odd set of productions, yet they were hits enough to still have fans and be sought after.  You can see our coverage of previous Stargate: Atlantis releases at these links:

Needless to say my two colleagues like the show more than I do, so I was curious what the Fans’ Choice Blu-ray of two episodes would be like and if it would change my opinion of the show in any way.  Instead, Rising and Enemy At The Gate just do not do it for me and are boring.  The characters are underdeveloped and uninteresting, the storylines everything we have seen before.  This is a sampler at best and meant as a successor of sorts to the Rising DVD, but as the title indicates, it is for fans only.  Try the feature film, then only move on to this highly unrelated material if you think you might care.

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 AVC @ 37 MBPS digital High Definition image on both episodes have too much digital work and are too soft throughout, even using all that bandwidth.  I was never a fan of the look of the show and as expected, it is not aging well.  The DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) lossless 5.1 mix is a little compressed throughout showing the age of the TV audio.  There are no extras.
