More like
not so awesome! Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job returns to DVD with their Third Season; meaning yet another
season of nonsensical humor mixed with a huge helping of “utter waste of
time.” In the past I have praised the
series for its great use of creativity and freedom of expression, but after
three seasons enough is enough. I have,
for lack of better words, put up with the series long enough. Tim
and Eric have somehow obtained the delusional perception that jumping up
and down, making funny faces, and carrying out other various idiotic acts is
considered art. Whereas at this point
(three seasons later) I would like to compare the series to a art house flick
or student film project I simply can not; a child with a Betamax camcorder and
a chimp with a typewriter could produce better television than these over
praised, talentless fools have generated.
If the
duo has created nothing else; they have created a degree of buzz and a solid
fan base for themselves. The series
continues to “utilize” it’s off brand of comedy and a slew of guest stars to
drag the fans back for more. Whereas
this reviewer was dragged back kicking and screaming, it is no surprise that
the series has gained quite a following.
Television today has filled the world, in copious amounts, with the same
old dribble; but tired TV goers way have found some merit (I have no idea how)
in Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job’s
zaniness. This breath of fresh air to
some tastes more like stagnant television to this reviewer; with three seasons
not changing enough to continue watching.
The
series continues to feature an array of guest stars such as Rainn Wilson, John
C. Reilly, Will Forte, John Mayer, “Weird Al,” Zach Galifianakis, Elisha
Cuthbert, Bill Hader, and many more that are seemingly fascinated with Tim and Eric and are more than willing
to participate in their idiocy. The
guest stars, across the board, are more entertaining than Tim and Eric themselves; often times due to them stepping outside
the roles you would expect from them.
Overall,
I have to dismiss this series and hope it does not last much longer. Three seasons may not seem like much, but
this “creative venture” is draining to watch as it leaves you perplexed and
questioning what you are even viewing.
And let me tell you; it never gets any better.
The
picture on Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job: Season 3 remains similar to the previous 2 releases as
it is intentionally bad. With the
series already being overwhelmingly frustrating and gritty the 1.33 X 1 full
screen image does not add to the experience as it just piles onto an
established annoyance. Once again, the
colors are weak with dull blacks and an overall soft image. The sound is
somewhat better than the picture in its Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
presentation, but like the previous seasons’ sketches the sound quality varies
as Tim and Eric purposely distort
and disrupt the media (like the picture), making it hard to say what is good
and what is bad.
The
extras continue along the same quirky path as the series, including a cavalcade
of absurdity. Bonus features include
deleted scenes that should stay deleted, a blooper reel that is
indistinguishable from what they consider “the good stuff,” Muscles for Bones:
Extended Episode, Getting it Dunn featurette, and Promos. Overall, I considered the extras to be as
useless as the series. I was hoping the
cast would make some sense out of their “creativity” to me in a “behind the
scenes” featurette in the extras; but no, it was just more of the same.
Absurd,
annoying, but oddly unique…
