The Big Bang Theory The Complete Second Season (2008 2009/Warner DVD)

After a
few TV shows started off so well then tanked, I do not get my hopes up for
second season of even the best debuts of any series anymore. However, I enjoyed the first season of The Big Bang Theory so much that even
others were talking about it and though it was not (yet?) getting record
ratings it highly deserves. Here is what
I had to say about that debut season:

The show
not only has continued to be as funny and as smart as it started out being, but
has actually become even better. Hard as
that is to believe, the makers of the show actually care about making the series truly funny and the casts chemistry has actually increased!
Though
leads Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons and Johnathan Galecki are still the focus of the
show, the storylines have extended to the other characters, who have been
nicely developed since the last season.
At first, I did not want to say it for fear of being let down, but I can
say with certainty that Big Bang Theory
is a classic and one of the most important U.S. TV comedies in many, many
years.
In what I
also hope is a sign of more great comedy to come, Big Bang Theory also happens to have spiritual parallel in the U.K.
with their best comedy series in as many years, The IT Crowd (reviewed elsewhere on this site) also taking place in
the world of geeks, technology and science.
As brilliant a show, can we see this happen a third time? In any TV market? If only.
To talk
about any more of the details of the show is to ruin the jokes, wit, irony and
some of the bets writing anywhere on television in any way, shape, form or
country. We get 4-DVDs this time with 23
episodes and though the maximum laughs will happen if you start with the first
season, this is so brilliant that you can catch it at this point and still be
cracking up for days. This Complete Second Season is one of the
best TV on DVD sets we are going to get all year and that includes classic TV.
Performance
is just as good as the last set. The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is consistent enough, but is a bit soft
at times throughout. I am surprised a Blu-ray
has not been issued of any seasons yet.
The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has Pro Logic surrounds, but those
surrounds are limited, but the show is recorded more than well enough to enjoy.
We get
more extras this time including a great Gag Reel (where was this on the first
set?), and two making of featurettes: Physicists To The Stars and Test
The Infinite Hilarity Hypothesis In Relation To The Big Bang Theory. I want more and with a third season in
progress, I hope we get it.
In the
meantime, see this show now!
