Jon Reep – Metro Jethro (Warner Bros. Records/Degenerate DVD/CD Set)

Another stand-up comedian is trying to be funny in the
“hick/country bumpkin” mode that made the TV series The Beverly Hillbillies a hit and been the source of politically
incorrect comedy ever since. Talent
contest winner Jon Reep has gone all out to be such a star and his new release Metro Jethro goes as overboard as
anything to leave no cliché unturned.
Warner Records has even issued a DVD/CD set so you can hear him be funny
(to the extent he is) in more places.
Unfortunately, it is everything we have heard before and
is mildly amusing at best. It is not
whether we have seen or heard better or worse, it is just that this is very
tired and is a one-note, one-joke affair.
He has some talent, but there is no challenge here and what we get is
stretched thin. For the most curious
only, others will want to skip it.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image on the DVD is a
little soft form what is likely a 1080i shoot, but is sufficient at best in
this tradedown. The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo is good, while the CD’s PCM 16/44.1 Stereo is a little better, but this
is a recording that is not the best we have heard for such a comedy release of
late. Extras include the CD, which
offers just about the same program.
