Gregg
Gour made an interesting decision recently, one that many in his position may
not have made. He was 48-years-old,
alone and has had AIDS for years. Told
he had only six months to live, no matter what medication he took, he dumped
the prescriptions, grabbed a video camera and taped his final months going on a
road trip. A Finished Life – The Goodbye & No Regrets Tour (2008) is the
result of the recording; a well-edited piece showing the man fitting in as much
as he wants and needs in his final days.
Sometimes
hard to watch, other times interesting, there are many times you would never
know he was dying. However, he has
accepted his fate and the others around him start to become affected by a good
man who is about to lose his life to an illness that should have been cured by
now. It is brave, unexploitive,
non-opportunistic, realistic and it works. Most would have never done this, no matter
what the disease, but he did and he leaves behind an interesting document of
his legacy and of those millions silent forever. Michelle Boyaner and Barbara Green completed
this and deserve kudos for such a fine job.
The 1.33
X 1 image is a little soft, but looks good considering the circumstances in
which it was produced. The Dolby Digital
2.0 sound is a mix of simple stereo and some mono, but is in better overall
shape than you would expect. There are
no extras.
