The Secret Life Of The American Teenager – Volume
Three (ABC-Disney DVD)

Why ABC
and Disney have decided to go from issuing Seasons to just volumes of their
moderate-at-best-hit TV series The Secret
Life Of The American Teenager is odd, but maybe it is to keep the show from
sinking into more boredom. This is my
first time (and hopefully last) to have to suffer through the show. A fellow writer covered the first two
seasons, which will tell you all you want to know about it at these links:

Needless
to say if you do not start from the beginning, do not try and watch from here.
I never liked the show and it is really lame now, though a curio since
1980s icon Molly Ringwald is part of the cast.
Oddly, despite the fact that she is named as the lead star of the show,
she is nowhere to be found on the cover art, though six younger unknowns who
comprise the regulars of the show are.
Not good.
12
none-too-engaging episodes are here on 3 DVD and this is for fans only, but
they keep putting the DVDs out, so there must be an audience. Maybe not a large one, but…
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is on the soft side and has some motion blur, while the
Dolby Digital 5.1 mix has boxy dialogue too much in the center channel and the
combination is almost as unimpressive as the shows. That makes this a chore to sit through. Extras include a chat featurette and pilot
episode entitled Make It Or Break It. I’ll skip the obvious jokes on that and move
on.
