Orphen – Season 2: Revenge (Volume 4 Animé TV)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C

Orphen is an Animé show about a child gang who does not always know what to do with themselves, though they fight among each other often, then monsters come out of nowhere and band together to fight monsters and evil people.  It is a silly reactionary show that ultimately has little point or entertainment going for it, but I have seen worse.

To give you an idea of the shows tone, read the titles of the following episodes:

The Young Woman Who Became A Cold

Isn’t He Lovely?

Running Away By The Light Of The Moon

The Luxury Cruise from Hell

Sometimes, it feels like the Animé show from hell as its wastes its time in developing what could have been a more constructive and interesting show.  It is surprisingly more forgettable than I expected after watching it, and its appeal to pity (these are orphans with no family but the dysfunctional one they make) is lame.  If you really have to see this show, try with the first DVD and see if it plays as badly, then you can decide if this is for you.

The full screen pencil drawing is noticeable in the full frame, from the previous generation of Animé in style.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has very little in the way Pro Logic surrounds and might as well be simple stereo for how miniscule they are.  The few extras include previews for other ADV DVDs, opening and closing credits without text and a production portfolio.  I would rather be an orphan than sit again through Orphen.  Yawn!
