The Secret Policeman’s Private Party (Shout! Factory DVD)

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: D     Compilation: C+

To further promote the activities and fund raising of Amnesty International, that organization and Shout! Factory have again come up with a single compilation of highlights from the longer, larger The Secret Policeman’s Balls DVD set.  While The Secret Policeman Rocks focused on the music, The Secret Policeman’s Private Party focuses on over two hours of the comedy skits.  For more on the big original DVD set, try this link:

Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, the more-successful-than-ever Hugh Laurie and Monty Python alumni John Cleese, Michael Palin, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Neil Innes and Terry Gilliam deliver the skits.  If you are not interested in any of the music, this is a set for you.  If you want more, you should go for the big set.

The 1.33 X 1 and their transfers are the old analog ones from the other set, though much of this was filmed.  It looks more aged than one would like, even for 16mm, though later skits were taped for this ongoing series.  The  Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is often monophonic at best and can be a little weak, so be careful of volume switching.  There are no extras.
