I was
such a fan of the Spy TV series spoof The
Piglet Files (reviewed elsewhere on this site) that I will watch anything Nicholas
Lyndhurst appears in. He is naturally
funny and has real talent, but even with the great Patrick Troughton (of Doctor
Who fame) as his father and the capable Janet Dibley as his wife, The Two Of Us is a very average sitcom
(or BritCom) that holds back the talents of just about everyone involved.
They try
for domestic bliss in their two-job life and he is very anxious to get
married. Why, the show never explains
much in the way of character study except to laugh about it. That is fair, but wears quickly as there is
not enough funny here to keep the show really funny. It may have some fans, but that must be a
narrow following.
The 1.33
X 1 color image is shot on PAL videotape and shows its age more than it should
in strained, soft playback despite the good color, while the Dolby Digital 2.0
Mono is also in good shape for a production from its time and more like what I
expected. There are no extras.
