Trailer Park Boys – Countdown To Liquor Day (2009/Screen Media Blu-ray + DVD)

In Canada, Trailer Park Boys was a long running
hit TV series (seven seasons) that picked up where the likes of The Red Green Show (reviewed elsewhere
on this site) left off with its backwoods humor, but with different characters
and goofy new kinds of exploits that were for a newer generation. Inspired by a telefilm, a theatrical release
was made in 2006 while the series was still on and now, Countdown To Liquor Day (2009) is a wrap-up of the show more or
less.
Well, you
don’t have top have seen any of the many previous exploits to get the humor,
give or take some Canadianisms you might not get, but it was one-note humor all
the way, everything we’ve seen before and is for diehard fans of the show
only. Basically, the main characters get
out of jail and cannot stay out of trouble.
Surprise?
If you
like My Name Is Earl or the like,
than you might enjoy this by default, but see it only if you are ultra-curious.
The 1080i
1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image has its share of motion blur and
watered-down images, but actually has a few good moments of stable imagery, but
the anamorphically enhanced DVD is not as good, weaker and flatter. The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix
on the Blu-ray is a little richer than the DVD’s Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, but
both have their share of audio drop out and weak sound throughout. Don’t expect much in the way of a soundfield. Extras in both formats are the same and
include several featurettes, audio commentary track, Deleted Scene and an
Alternate Ending.
