Overhaulin’ (Highlights Compilation/The Learning Channel/Vivendi DVD Set)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Episodes: C+

In another series inspired by the success of Pimp My Ride, The Learning Channel has issued a compilation of the first few seasons of Overhaulin’, now in a new DVD set.  Instead of focusing on recent cars, they redo old vans, older cars (like Corvettes and Cadillacs) and even trucks.  10 episodes are included over 2 DVDs and though they are uneven, they have their moments.  I just never grew to like the show because it is made in a static way.

You have three hosts, but they never gel like a Top Gear, while they still do their best (led by Chip Foose) to make this work.  Now you can see for yourself.

The 1.33 X 1 image is not bad and colorful throughout, shot on NTSC professional video apparently.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is also well recorded, if simple, making the combination seem like the end of an era in TV.  There are no extras.
