In a
continuing series of films chronicling the long and ugly reign of the Nazis in Germany,
Michael Kloft is back with two more vital examinations of one of the darkest
chapters in world history. Heinrich Himmler Anatomy Of A Mass
Murderer features the man who headed the murderous SS and ran all the
concentration camps throughout Europe. As I watched, I realized his story is
undertold and he needs to be reexposed as the madman he was. There is new and rare material included in
the 52 minutes here that show just how monstrously effective he was. The result is one of the best installments in
the series to date.
The Night Of Broken Glass The
November 1938 Pogroms
features one of the most massive anti-Semitic acts in history as Himmler and
Hitler decided to wreck and destroy over 7,000 Jewish-owned businesses, over
400 synagogues, capture & deport over 26,000 men to concentration camp and
destroyed countless other lives. This
program is especially effective in showing the callousness of the local
citizens who just stood by and watched, as if none of it mattered. This is one of the best programs showing the
event and includes more rare, scare and unique material you will likely not see
anywhere else.
The 1.33
X 1 image is good in both cases, with new footage looking good and older
footage well-edited into the new and often looking good for its age. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo in both cases is
as good and clean as it has been in previous volumes in the series and though
some audio is monophonic and can show its age, efforts to clean it up have been
very good. Extras on both volumes include
text director bio and Third Reich Film Gallery.
