Dwizzle Dee – Colors, Sizes, Songs &
Imagination! (Cinema Werx DVD)

Another
child-safe entry into the DVD market, Dwizzle
Dee – Colors, Sizes, Songs & Imagination! is the first of what is
intended to be a series of DVDs that help children learn basic skills, ideas
and positive forms of conduct. With
puppets Gilford, Penny and Lenny, the show encourages the child (Pre-School)
viewer to follow their curiosity and want to learn more.
The show
succeeds, but despite all the room on the disc, only one episode at 25-ish
minutes is included and though many major distributors do the same thing, I am
not a fan of this approach. The idea is
to include just enough information that the child can explore it in a limited
way and learn it eventually as if it were second hand. For a show that is not as well-known, this
backfires, but I thought it was not bad and worth getting if you have a young
child and you are good with the length limit.
The 1.33
X 1 image was shot on analog videotape/low-definition digital video and looks
good, is colorful and is not bad, though there are spots of softness and a
little aliasing here and there. The
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is well recorded enough and does not hit the child
viewer over the head with too much sound.
Extras include a Sing-A-Long section and animated video preview for El Gato; another learning program
