Black Label Society: The European Invasion – Doom Troopin’ Live (Eagle Blu-ray)

Last year, we looked at the Music Video collection of Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde’s hard-rockin’ band that was not bad, but not great either.  Now comes a collection of two of their more recent concerts on Blu-ray in a collection called Black Label Society: The European Invasion – Doom Troopin’ Live, once again issued by Eagle Entertainment.  This includes two concerts, a long one in Paris and shorter on in London.

Like their Videos, the concert is not bad, has energy and quality to it, but unless you really like them or their type of Rock, this will all seem repetitious and is not for everyone.  Fans will be happy to have them in a higher format and they do play hard, plus they actually seem to care about their fans.  However, I found it all only so memorable and it only distinction for now is that it is one of the only concerts in its genre on Blu-ray.

The 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is not bad for each concert, yet can have more instances of softness and that includes image manipulation and styling that may be hip, but do not help playback.  The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix is the best of three audio options (including PCM 2.0 Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1) that sounds good and is well recorded enough, but does not offer anything in the way of great soundfields either.  For the genre, this is one of the better recordings on the market, so playback is also among the best.

Extras include two Music Videos from that collection (In This River, Fire It Up), making of the Savage Messiah clip and a 50-minutes featurette called Backstage Pass about the band’s tour.  You can read about the previous DVD/CD Music Video collection Skullage at this link:
