Alfa Romeo – Victory by Design (DTS)

Picture: B-     Sound: B     Extras: C+     Film: B

For the true Alfisti, this is the program that will have you grinning from ear to ear.  One of the coolest programs from the Victory by Design series (look for the reviews on this site for Ferrari, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Maserati and Porsche) our host Alain de Cadenet is at it again driving some of the classiest cars all over the place as we are invited from our home viewing station along for a ride.  While it would be impossible to check out all these vehicles in true depth, he covers some of the most essential elements of each as we take a tour into each vehicle in this lengthy program.

When these shows aired on the Speed Channel, they were about 45 min. in length in order to fill an hour time slot, but here they are presented uncut for a total run time close to 98-minutes, so that alone shows how much more in depth these are and more cars are covered.  Here is the listing:

RL Targa Florio

6C 1750 Gran Sport

8C 2300 Zagato Racer

8C 2300 Touring Racer

8C 2300 Monza

As with the other discs, the show is presented in a 1.78 X 1 anamorphic transfer, which looks very good and demonstrates some of the superb camerawork that goes into making these shows look as good as they do, especially some of the car mounts that allows us to ‘feel’ the ride of each model.  There are two soundtrack options as well, the 5.1 Dolby mix or the 5.1 DTS mix, with the DTS offering the best results as always.  The engine sounds, the zipping around corners, and all the other natural sounds of these shows is accurately defined in the DTS mix with a constant amount of activity filling the soundstage.

There is only so much that can be said about these programs other than to just check them out!  These are fun, fascinating, and the best way to show your friends just how cool a home theater can be outside of just feature films.  This would be a good start for your collection of the Victory by Design series as well, since it offers some of the more recognizable vehicles.  Some of these vehicles are priceless and their beauty is truly seen and demonstrated here in this show.  You will hardly ever get another opportunity to see all of these models in one place ever again and now you can experience it like never before on DVD.

This and other DVDs from the series are only available from the manufacturer exclusively, so you can order and get more information at www.VictoryByDesign.com or call toll free at 1-877-466-6660 to get your hands on this great series, the initial six of which are reviewed throughout this site.
