Dead Rising: Watchtower (2015/Sony DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: C+ Film: C-

Based on the Capcom video game of the same name, Zack Lipovsky's Dead Rising: Watchtower (2015) is a short zombie film full of as much blood and guts as you would expect with outlandish characters and an absurd storyline that aims to satisfy fans of the genre.

When a mandatory government vaccine fails and a full-scale zombie epidemic ensures, a news reporter and three other survivors are trapped in a quarantine zone. The team must use whatever means are necessary to survive and remain human and not one of the undead.

The film feels more like a video game than a movie at moments, with several scenes where weapons become easily available and the kinetic feel is based on convenience. As far as storytelling goes, it's pretty much the same zombie movie we have seen before with some things that cater more towards fans of the game more than anything else. Jesse Metcalfe, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Haysbert star.

Presented in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.40:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track that sounds and looks fine for the DVD format but doesn't match Blu-ray quality.

Special features include Rob Riggle Blooper Reel, The Weapons of Dead Rising: Watchtower, Genesis of Bonzo the Zombie Clown, Filmmaker Commentary and a Behind The Scenes look at an epic one-take shot.
