Burial Ground (1981/Severin Films Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B Extras: B Film: B

Just in time for the Halloween season (and the return of The Walking Dead) comes the newly remastered Blu-ray to the Italian zombie/sleazy romp, Andrea Bianchi's Burial Ground. Featuring silent moving undead that stalk their victims like Jason Voorhees and don't stop until they have made their prey supper, these maggot-infested zombies also hold the power to turn their victims into zombies after being bitten, a trait many zombie films have inherited. While not as spectacular as Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2, Burial Ground has enough gore, boobs, and badass cinematography to please fans of the horror sub genre. This movie still stick in your brain (no pun intended) days after watching I guarantee.

In Italy, various couples are being stalked by flesh eating zombies after a professor unleashes them from an underground tomb. Preoccupied with their partners, little do these victims realize the dangerous grounds they are in. Characters include a bizarre Mother/Son relationship (the son played by adult actor Peter Bark - which adds to the creepy factor), a young Blonde who gets her foot stuck in a bear trap, and a hopeless victim who gets yanked through a window and gets all scarred up and zombified. The fight for survival begins.

Presented in 1080p with a jaw dropping new 2K 1.66 X 1 transfer, the film has been color corrected shot by shot and really looks spectacular on Blu-ray Disc. The colors are bright and vibrant throughout and the detail work here is so good that it shows some fakeness to some of the low budget special effects. Not that that takes away any level of enjoyment from the film. The sound mix is also stellar with a lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0 Mono track that brings the film to roaring life like never before.

Special Features include...

Villa Parisi - Legacy of Terror: Featurette on the historic house location

Peter Still Lives: Festival Q&A with actor Peter Bark
