In the same vein as Frankenstein, The Monster Maker (1944), is directed by Frank Newfield and deals with a Diabolical Mad Scientist who falls in love at first sight with a woman, ends up turning her boyfriend into a monster by injecting him with a serum and distorting his facial features in order for her to lose her attraction to him. A fun (and short) black and white feature, this PRC Studio production is a lesser known film that's worth a watch on disc.

The film stars J. Carrol Naish, Ralph Morgan, and Tala Birell to name a few.

Presented on standard definition DVD with a 1.33:1 full frame aspect ratio and a lossy 2.0 Dolby Digital Mono track, the film looks and sounds average in the format considering its age and could definitely use a high definition restoration to bring out more detail. Still for a film like this that old and not very well known, it's just nice to have a copy of it on disc that's watchable and that's good for fans of PRC's output.
