Shark Attack! (Nova/WGBH)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episode: B-

Shark and their reputation continue to be a fascination and sometimes obsession in the media.  Though it would be a lie to say they are not eating machines, the media makes them out to be killing machines.  Fortunately, the Nova program Shark Attack! gets to the root of the issue, showing how smart the creatures are and that it may be certain surfboards that look like animal prey that are bringing on some of the attacks.

This show takes place in Hawaii and involves tiger sharks, starting with a POV (point of view) reenactment of an attack by said creature on a surfer who was severely bruised in an attack.  It then takes its near hour-long length to theorize and even test why this happened.  In the end, I wished the program had gone on longer because there was certainly more to say, including more about the processes of sharks.  They deserve fairer airtime, but this is a good start.

The 1.33 X 1 image has some definition problems in the detail and moiré area, but plays back just fine otherwise.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has no surrounds and the only extra again is a weblink and DVD-ROM printable material.
