Geronimo & The Apache Resistance (American Experience/WGBH)

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episode: B

Geronimo & The Apache Resistance is one of WGBH’s older, better installments of their American Experience series telling a myth-busting story about the great Native American warrior who more than held his own against the mass genocide of his people by corrupt settlers expanding the U.S. in all the wrong ways.  We hear his amazing resistance stories, the nightmare of the murders and scalphunters ($100 for a male Apache, $50 female, $25 children!!!) leading to the well-known conclusion.

But instead of taking advantage of the facts and truth to make some left-wing diatribe that has nothing to do with the subject, this very well-researched installment has all kinds of information, graphics and interviews getting to the untold story.  It holds up very well and is welcome to DVD as timely as ever.  This is a must-see from the series.

The 1.33 X 1 image is sourced from an older analog source and it shows in this transfer, but it is watchable enough despite this.  Wonder if it could be upgraded?  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is simple and though also dated, holds up better despite some limits.  A DVD-ROM section for printable educational materials is the only major extra.
