Ultimate Dinosaur Collection (BBC DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C

Because of a certain set of Steven Spielberg hits, several TV shows and mini-series with bad CG animation were produced and some are just now arriving on DVD.  We previously covered such a show called Prehistoric Park:

BBC’s Ultimate Dinosaur Collection is longer (3 DVDs/4 shows) and ultimately thinner in covering the history of the famous extinct animal.  Though fans will love it, the thing about both shows is how they actually take away from the desire to learn about these creatures, including killing imagination with half-witted effects that are really no better than hand-drawn or stop motion animation of a few decades ago.  Therefore, this is for die hard fans only.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft at times and the digital effects are dated on arrival, but it has its watchable moments.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix is not bad, but can also be rough and overly digital.  The only extra is a making of piece on DVD 1.
