David Attenborough’s Wildlife Specials (BBC DVD)

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: C+     Episodes: B

BBC Video continues to roll out their catalog of David Attenborough broadcasts with Wildlife Specials.  We previously looked at a look at birds dubbed Paradise, which you can read more about at this link:

These are all from the 1990s and include the following shows:

Polar Bear – Arctic Warrior

Crocodile – Smiling Predator

Leopard – Agent Of Darkness

Eagle – Master Of The Skies

Humpback – Giant Of The Ocean

Wolf – Legendary Outlaw

This is a two-DVD set like its predecessor and is just about as satisfying, though the haziness of the 1.33 X 1 transfers were an issue.  Still, he is very thorough, the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is pretty clear for its age and it is about the equal of the last release.  Extras include Great Natural Wonders Of The World and Greatest Wildlife Show On Earth, the latter of which is anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 and rounds out the set nicely.  Self-explanatory does not mean oversimplified by any means and the footage in all programs is amazing.

With too many nations (and corporations) neglecting or outright allowing the wholesale slaughter of animals and trashing of the environment, this set cold not come out sooner or at a more timely manner.
