Sixteen Days In China (2008/MVDVisual DVD)

Martin Atkins of PIL (Public Image Limited), Killing Joke and Pigface decided to look for a new, emerging Rock Music scene in China and the result is he met some great people, found some interesting bands and made a documentary piece about the trip called Sixteen Days In China (2008) now out on DVD from MVD Visual.

At about 70 minutes, it is a little rough, he is raw and we are told the tale chronologically, but more often than I would have liked, it does not delve enough into the people and the music, as amusing as it gets.  We do learn about politics and ho the burgeoning market is growing and that in itself can be amusing, but this could have been longer and deeper considering the potential of the situation.  Still, it is worth a good look and hopefully not the last we hear on the subject.

The 1.33 X 1 image can be rough and was shot low-def, but there are still some nice shots, even the editing is all over the place.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 is barley stereo and has a combination of harshness, compression and location audio that is also rough going.  Be careful of playing at high volumes.  Extras include a section of stills of old Maoist Propaganda, three Music Videos and a trailer.
