Growing Up Safari (Animal Planet/Genius DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Episodes: B

The Growing Up series from the Animal Planet network continues to roll out on DVD from Genius DVD with Growing Up Safari, with the new animals including Zebras, Giraffes, Rhinos and underappreciated Hyenas.  With each show running under an hour, the series once again shows one of the younger (to baby) versions of said animal in trouble and how people who care try to save it.

This is one of the better, rich volumes because so much seems to happen here.  We have and will continue to cover this series (try “Growing Up” in our search engine to read about other releases) and this is as good a volume to start with as any.

The 1.33 X 1 image is again not bad, with clean and colorful analog NTSC video shooting.  Some shots are better than others, but all looks good considering the circumstances they were shot in.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is also consistent and just stereo enough, with good recording overall in the four shows.  There are no extras.
