Bakugan: Battle Brawlers Vol. 2 (Warner/Cartoon Network)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Episodes: B

We now continue our look at Bakugan: Battle Brawlers.  Dan's life changed when cards fell from the sky one day, they seemed harmless so they turned it into a new game, Bakugan.  But soon they discovered the cards came from another world, Vestroia.  The cards were more than just a game, and they were more powerful than they could imagine.  They find out they are not only fighting for themselves but to save both their worlds as well.

This animation is one of those series created for a table top game, you can just see the table top cards on the deck (literally).  The premise is simple, a hot game that kids are into which they battle one another to find out who is best, but as the series develops so does the story and characters.  Naturally the main characters has rivals or an evil villain the will meet and fight for several times.  What is unique about the game is that some of the pieces have the ability to talk and even their own personalities, the give advice and encouragement to the players and even act as the peanut gallery from time to time.

I would recommend this series for those who like card/table top games, it reminds me of a lot of Pokemon or Yu-gi-oh! Every episode there is card battling.  It is pretty easy to understand and figure out how Bakugan is played; as battles begin each play throws down a card (gate/field) and then throws their character(s) and based on each attribute effects the winner of the battle.  It uses various elements such as fire, wind, water, earth, light and darkness different combination will have different strengths, weakness or effects.  Since the series is based on a game, all characters are heads over heels for the game, you will see lots of characters yelling out their moves while trying pose looking cool.
