Mars: The Quest For Life (Discovery Channel/Genius Blu-ray)

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: D     Feature: D

While many of the Discovery Channels programs are very fun to watch and learn at the same time, Mars: The Quest For Life one is not.  It is very boring, feeling more like one of those bad made for high school sleepers we all were made to sit through.  Too bad, because the subject is always an interesting one, but this is so by-the-numbers that it just never works.

The 1.78 x 1 digital High Definition picture does not look very good at all, but what can you really expect from it.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is just like it would be watching the program on cable television, a weaker older sound codec that does not add anything to the experience of watching this.  There is no reason to own this unless you are a school teacher wanting to put the class to sleep, and definitely no reason to own the Blu-ray.  There are far better programs on Mars available and here are links to a few of them:
