Jaguar – Victory by Design (DTS)

Picture: B-     Sound: B     Extras: C+     Film: B+

By the time that Victory By Design brought forth the Jaguar series they had the show nailed down to perfection with Alain de Cadenet once again appearing and driving these vehicles making all the viewers want to be in his shoes at that very moment, even with his accent!  This is one of the best in the series, even though they are all great, you can really see how this part of the series pulls together quite well.

All of the milestone Jaguars are featured here and this is an essential DVD for the simple fact that it goes beyond the broadcast version of the episode shown on The Speed Channel because it runs nearly twice that length and has been reformatted along with the other titles in the series in an anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 widescreen image with newly prepared Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 mixes for sheer audio adrenaline power.

This episode also appears to be shot in High Definition as it looks much better than the first in the series, which were Ferrari and Porsche.  Once can quickly see how the quality looks much better and detail is more evident in all scenes.  Here are the models featured and/or driven:

  • SS100
  • XK120 (competition Roadster)
  • XK120 (Roadster)
  • XK120 (Ecurie Ecosse)
  • XK120/LT2
  • C-Type
  • HWM – Jaguar
  • D-Type (Works short-nose)
  • D-Type (Ecurie Ecosse, short nose)
  • D-Type (Ecurie Ecosse, lond nose)
  • E-Type (Roadster)
  • E-Type (Comp Roadster)
  • E-Type (Low-drag Coupe)
  • Lister Jaguar Coupe
  • XJ13
  • E-Type (Series 3 Roadster)
  • E-Type (Group 44 competition)
  • XJR-J
  • XJ220
  • XJ220/C

Among anything else that distinguishes the Jaguar (pronounced Jag-Year according to driver/enthusiast/host Alain de Cadenet) is it’s sound and the newly mixed 5.1 option is brilliant in taking full advantage of it’s power and performance.  Of course only the DTS mix is fully capable of showing off just how amazing these models handle as de Cadenet races them all over with ease demonstrating the performance and the audio mix also delivers a realistic at home experience.  Sound effects come and go in and out of different channels to assimilate an at home driving experience like no other.  Note how even the sporty luxury V-12 Jaguar XJ-S was skipped, though some great racers were made form that series.

Every person has their favorite vehicle when it comes to cars and perhaps even favorite model, but any of these DVD’s from Victory By Design are great and all have their stellar sections that will make anyone wish they could ride along in any of these amazing machines.  I can’t recommend them enough so check the reviews for this site on the other vehicles available on DVD for right now.  One can only hope they will not stop here and do more quality work like this, as it paid off here!  The DVDs can only be ordered exclusively through the manufacturer, so visit their website at www.VictorybyDesign.com or call 1-877-466-6660 for more details on this and other titles in the series.
